    Difficulty Level:
  • October 10, 2012 Excellent piece in 3/4

"Wonder Waltz" is an original and accessible 3/4 piece for students in their second full year of string orchestra. The piece stays in G major with an occasional D sharp in the second violins for harmonic contrast. The cellos frequently have a counter-melody on dotted half-notes that...

gives them a little more of the spotlight. The performers must switch between arco and pizzicato throughout the piece, with a sustained tremolo in the upper strings near the end. "Wonder Waltz" is an excellent teaching piece for the waltz style and also for working on intonation in the key of G major. It may sometimes be "overlooked" because it is not the newest and flashiest composition, but it is definitely worth adding to your intermediate library.
