Waiting for the Promise

By Lloyd Larson

SATB choir
Composed by Lloyd Larson. Choral. Sacred Anthem, Advent. Octavo. Exaltation Publications #10/2845L. Published by Exaltation Publications (LO.10-2845L).

Item Number: LO.10-2845L

This is one of those rare Advent anthems which is up-beat. Jan McGuire has fashioned a text that emphasizes the four traditional themes of Advent: hope, peace, love and joy. The melody and joyous accompaniment, with optional Flute and triangle, underscore the refrain's message of prophetic fulfillment: "Waiting for the promise, joyful news to tell: God will soon be with us. Come, Emmanuel!".

Love this piece for its simplicity (choir and flutist) of music and words. Waiting for the Promise almost has a child-like words of excitement for the birth of the Holy child. Since we have a plethora of flutists in our church, this piece is accented with the flute support...

and allows us to involve accompaniest other than piano or organ. Nice, nice Advent piece. Llyod Larson is one of my favorite composers for church music, and I would recommend most of his work.
