By E. L. Lancaster

Piano - Late Elementary
Composed by E. L. Lancaster and Kelsey Lancaster. Piano Solo; Solo; Solo Small Ensembles. The Alfred Signature Series. Form: Toccata. Sheet. 4 pages. Alfred Music #00-20732. Published by Alfred Music (AP.20732).

Item Number: AP.20732

ISBN 9780739022412. English.

While practicing the piano one day, Kelsey turned to her father and asked Why can't I ever play anything like this? and immediately improvised the first 10 measures of Toccatina Twister. E. L. took her idea and expanded it to a 58-measure, late elementary solo written in D minor. Students move around the keyboard in a variety of 5-finger patterns as the piece twists and turns. Both staccato and legato touches are used, making this solo a good technical study as well.

This piece has been a teaching favorite for the past 6 years. My students always enjoy learning this piece was co-written by 9 year old Kelsey Lancaster and her Dad, E.L. Lancaster. Great for teaching keyboard geography, rhythm and dynamics. Highly recommend!

As an adult beginner, I love this piece. It's enough of a challenge to feel like a real accomplishment now I've learned it and it gets my hands moving away from the center of the keyboard. It's also a good piece for practicing maintaining a steady rhythm...

, and for learning to play softly with one hand while the other plays more loudly. And it's fun! I think this would make a great recital piece for an elementary student who's looking for something they'll really enjoy playing that will 'hook' their audience.
