  • August 30, 2013 One of the best intermediate "flashy" pieces.

This little corker by Dubois makes a superb postlude. It is both overlong (7 minutes) and incongruous as a postlude when played in full - the languid middle section is lovely, but has no place in a piece titled "Toccata" - but if you take it from the return of the main...

theme 2/3 of the way through (and repeat the opening section, as at the beginning) it is three and a half minutes of sheer delight for organist and listener both. As for difficulty, it falls into the narrow crack between "intermediate" and "intermediate advanced". It is considerably harder than, say, Marcello's "Psalm 19", but considerably easier than, say, the Final of Vierne's "Symphony #1". Extra effort devoted to precise fingering in the "learning" stage is time well spent. A "can't miss" piece - everyone loves it!

  • December 03, 2007 A really fun piece !

This piece appealed to me from first hearing it a concert. It requires really good finger facility, but pedalling is not difficult. I am looking forward to getting it prepared to play as a postlude for church, and at a concert. Piano practice will definitely help with preparation of this...

    piece for organ.

Fun to play, festive, for holidays, not particularly difficult.

  • January 25, 2006 Great for Palm Sunday

A thorough study of this piece reveals the frenetic, jubilant crowd, the plotting few (in the minor passages) and the dignity and ultimate triumph of the Son of God. It works very well for an extended postlude or as a recital piece.

While I hardly consider it easy, it is easier than it sounds, thus leaving the impression that you have spent hours upon hours studying the piece. Another plus is that it sounds nice even on a smaller organ. The pedal part is simple sight reading material. This is also a...

quality copy of music on quality paper. It is a bit too long for a church prelude, but one could play the second half (where the main theme returns) and it would be very appropriate for a "showy" prelude. I would rate its difficulty level as intermediate.
