In this dynamic multi-style overture for band, Michael Sweeney opens with stark percussive hits, brass fanfares, and swirling woodwind effects. A fast tempo and long build follows, using non-traditional harmonies and overlapping layers of sound, climaxing with a majestic, soaring statement by the entire ensemble. The slower middle section features a solo flute accompanied by rich sonorities and counterlines.
