This has become my favorite Bill Evans book to play from. Maybe it is not as challenging as the rest of them. But it has chordings and rifts that I love. Even if "Here's that Rainy Day" starts and ends in B Major, I think I can nail it...

    with a little work.

I am a classically trained pianist and took jazz lessons in college but never got the "sound" I wanted. The transcriptions are ENTIRELY accurate. If you have a good bill evans collection and your piano is in tune, you can play along w/ the cd once you work up the...

piece. Yes the syncopation can be tricky, but you'll see that in each piece he uses pretty much the same exact chords throughout so you just have to get the rhythm. It is beautiful music that is really simple once you break it down but he puts it together so elegantly. Bill Evans is a master and this book is for anyone. If you are a jazz pianist you will appreciate this and use this as a reference. If you are a classically trained pianist you will really find great pleasure in learning the pieces and hearing the gorgeous SOUND you are creating! It's one thing to listen to him on cd, but another to actually see on paper how he breaks down a simple melody into the most amazing music.

This is a great book to pick up the stylings and nuances of Bill's artistry on the piano. The music is difficult to play. I have been working on this book for years and have not mastered anyone of the songs even though I am a fairly accomplished jazz...

pianist. It is tricky to coordinate Bill's syncopated left hand work and do justice to the solos. The transcriptions are very accurate. It is a worthwhile purchase just to get an insight into his mastery of the jazz art form.
