This is a powerful and compelling account of the descent into war and its terrible consequences. Dedicated to the victims of the Kosovo conflict, this work is a contemporary example of a mass based on the 15th-century French song “L'homme armé.” Set within the framework of the Latin mass, The Armed Man is a major choral work which uses both sacred and secular texts.

You probably know already - this is a wonderful Mass for Peace, full of truly beautiful and moving melodies. My only gripe is that it's not spiral bound so I'll have to get it done so that the pages stay flat.

This is a wonderful, powerful mass. It is inclusive of all nations and faiths. Our choir has sung this on three occasions since 2010 and we are about to include three pieces in our next concert “Peace andWar” to honour Anzac Day. We will be performing the entire mass in...

We only wanted to sing "God Shall Wipe Away All Tears", the last three pages of the Mass. The soprano requires a high range, but is doable with warm-up. We only have a dozen in our choir. I believe we can do some other parts of the Mass. That...

would make the cost of the whole 122 pages more worthwhile. This is definitely a keeper, as the trained musicians deemed it beautiful, even with our few voices.

I sang "The Armed Man" my senior year of college, and the only day when it actually came together was the night of the rehearsal with a 65 piece orchestra. The different movements sync oddly with each other, especially with the "call to battle," it was just an odd piece...

that did not have much direction. There were certain movements that were very great to sing, such as the 6th movement, but those such as the 1st movement are a bore. Not a huge fan of this piece, a great piece to sing would be the "German Requiem".... just saying...

  • February 05, 2009 A great choral piece!

The voicing in this is quite accessible, other than a bit of high range for the sopranos in one movement. This has wonderful rhythms, structure, and feel, PLUS it has a strong social comment that we should all hear from time to time! My singers rate this A+++.
