Ola Gjeilo’s Stone Rose, Five pieces for piano, is a subset from a group of fifteen pieces under the same name, originally for piano and small ensemble. For the listener, the pieces are accessible, lyrical, uplifting and highlight various moods ranging from the deeply interior January to the happy...

walk along The Hudson. Pressed to characterize the genre, I would characterize the pieces as being heavily influenced by minimalists like Philip Glass, and the more lyric, Ludivico Einaudi, and I can also clearly see and hear the influence of 4 part chorale writing.Regarding the level of difficulty, for the most part, these pieces are within the hand span and grasp of the intermediate student and can be played successfully by one, yet, for the advanced pianist, there is much that can be expressed (Think of Brahms, Op.119, #1 as an example of a piece of similar difficulty technically which is also beautifully constructed and emotionally compelling).Highly recommended.
