    This aria is a great addition for those looking to expand their repertoire past the traditional artsongs/arias but maybe aren't ready for the "heavy" stuff....

    This is one of Menotti's best solo pieces because it is lyrical and singable, without being completely atonal. It's lyrics, though very poignant, are still easy to memorize. Though this piece sounds lovely and perhaps even easy, it is by no means easy to actually perform well. It...

    challenges a singer's ability to emote without over singing as well as to hear complicated intervals and sing them accurately. Singers must focus on the English diction on high notes, and practice extending the upper range without jarring force, but rather lightly and easily. This piece is truly an impressive and demanding aria for a serious soprano.
