Beethoven's Spring Sonata is one of his happiest creations. Violinists and pianists alike love its truly spring-like grace, inwardness, spirit and power. Early reviewers underscored the fact that the sonata “is not at all difficult to perform and is thus recommended to a larger public.” This still applies today and raises the work to the status of one of the most popular violin sonatas of all time.

  • July 20, 2019 The best you can get

This Henle edition is easy to read - so important in working on a magnificent yet difficult masterpiece by Beethoven. The violinist with whom I work enjoys the choice of having 2 (!) different fingered and bowed editions to use.

  • July 16, 2007 Good edition, poor pagination

The usual Henle quality. However, the pagination for the piano part leaves a lot to be desires. Page turns are in the most inconvenient places.

  • February 18, 2007 Wow!!, It's a stunner!!!!!!!!!

Played with piano, this piece sounds great!!! Alot more... light hearted than other Beethoven Violin pieces... If you're a Beethoven fan and play Violin, I recommend that this piece be used for an audition or concert stage performance, If you want the best recording of this piece, you should...

get Itzhak Perlman and Vladimir Ashkenazy's recording, available from DECCA RECORDS.
