An excellent collection of symphonic and operatic works by the great composers. The pieces were chosen for their appealing melodies and rhythmic vitality. Includes: Theme from Don Giovanni (La ci darem la mano) by Mozart • Egyptian Ballet Dance (from the opera Sanson & Delilah) by Saint Saëns • Liebestraum by Liszt • The Merry Widow Waltz (from the opera The Merry Widow) by Lehár • Minuet (Op. 14, No. 1) by Paderewski • Canon by Pachelbel • Spring (from The Four Seasons) by Vivaldi • Suitor's Song (from the operetta The Gypsy Baron) by J. Strauss, Jr. • Theme from Symphony No. 1 (Third Movement, “Frère Jacques” theme) by Mahler • Prince of Denmark's March (Trumpet Voluntary) by Clarke.

  • February 08, 2021 Love these pieces

Delighted to able to play a simplified version of favorites even though I'm just a beginner. The pieces not only reinforce what I'm learning in the lesson book, but extend the lessons somewhat. It's valuable to move around the keyboard a little more. However, I was disappointed...

that when I bought Faber's Adult Piano adventures Classics at the same time, there was a lot of overlap. A few are exactly identical; for those that have slightly different versions this book is easier.I would have preferred for all the pieces to be unique (in the adventure series).

  • August 17, 2017 Great book!

I give this a higher score due to the teacher duet feature. As a teacher, I found this book very accessible for students introduction to the classical repertoire. I even record us performing it on my cell phone and send it to the parents! Everyone loves it! (Note: As the...

books progress to next levels in Faber there are fewer duets which is understandable as the student content is richer. So enjoy them while you can!)

  • March 28, 2007 Great beginner songs!

As a piano teacher, I have noted that the songs in most beginning lesson books are very boring. What motivates kids to practice is being able to play beautiful music! Although the entire book is not exciting, three songs are worth purchasing the book: Pachelbel's Canon, Vivaldi's Spring...

, and Mahler's Theme from Symphony No. 1 which is "Frere Jacques" played in a minor key! My kids love these songs. They also like playing duets, and it's nice to have a teacher part at the bottom.
