One of the most beautiful and spiritual works ever written. There is a true depth here. A deep understanding of the universe and musics relation to it. Adams has tapped in to something. And the world deserves to experience its aura.

"Phrygian Gates" is probably my favorite 20th century piano work. John Adams does an outstanding job using minimalist techniques to create a lush harmonic and rythmic texture. There is also quite a range of emotions. From delicate to bombastic to dark to dramatic, Adams never fails to please the listener...

. This is definatly not a piece for the amataur pianist. First off, it's very technically demanding, and also long and hard to memorize (~26 minutes, 64 pages, 1050+ measures). However, Adams did write a similar piece called "China Gates." It's just as enjoyable and much less technically demanding.
