One could argue that 'Claire de Lune' can never work fully on a solo guitar. That said, the arrangement here is lovely, particularly in the arrangement of the main theme and its return at the end. The middle section is a little more problematic, with the melody placed down in...

the bass and a passage where Debussy seems to vanish for a few bars. I'd combine the A section from this arrangement with the middle section from Barbosa Lima's version. The rest of this book is great - love Girl with the Flaxen Hair, the Satie pieces and what for me is the best arrangement of Mysterious Barricades" by Couperin.

  • August 10, 2008 Worth the effort to learn these pieces

I don't know where Eddie May is coming from - the Clair de Lune is fantastic - does not even need to be compared to piano version as it takes on a life of its own on the guitar. - The other pieces are very satisfying as well and are worth the...

    time and effort to learn.

I found the music book to be well composed despite Eddie Mays' obvious self-serving review.

  • August 17, 2004 Awful arrangement

The claire de lune is the worst arrangement from piano to guitar I have ever seen in my life(not possible). Also other arrangements aren't well fingered. The Trois Gymnopedie's aren't in their original key. Get 135 classical solos book by Fred Sokolow for better arrangements!!!
