    Difficulty Level:
  • March 31, 2008 Quality 2nd Book for the Early Beginner

This book follows the PrePrimer level and introduces staff reading. The approach is based on guideposts and intervals, using middle C as the first guidepost. Only white keys are used at this level. The only downside of this approach is that some students may get "frozen" in the middle C...

position until the C major position is introduced in the last third of the book. The Playing with Sound theory book keeps the focus on intervallic reading rather than mere note memorization. Interesting pieces are a feature of the course, with more melodic quality than is typical of beginner books. Large notes and attractive pictures make the course motivating for children in the 5-7 age range. Follow this book with level 1 of Noona Comprehensive Piano Library.
