Nómade

Version for flute sextet (or six-part flute choir)

Nómade is the second movement of SONATANGO, composed in2002. Actually, Nómade was thefirst being composed (concretelly in Lilienthal, Germany, on 13th June2002). Up to now, I made more than thirty instrumentations of this movement. Thisone is the 34th version, it was made in Bremen in February 2013 for the groupFlautasArgentinas coordinated by Cecilia Piehl, and premiered duringthe 41st Convention of the National Flute Association in New Orleans -USA-in August 2013.

Each of the six parts can be performed by more than one flute.

The piccolo part can beperformed with soprano flute (one octave higher, of course).

Nómade, asthe whole SONATANGO, is dedicated to my sister María Mercedes.

I prepared the premiere at the 41st NFA Flute Convention in New Orleans in August 2013. There are just a few slow paced tango music pieces, and for flute ensemble nearly none. The piece is short (3 minutes), therefore its attractiveness never ends because the musical material stays fresh and...

new.All flutes are used in a range and difficult level also adequate for beginners. There is thematic material (melodies) present in all parts, which are written in an ideal register and each has its own range, therefore they never collide or compete. The melodic parts stand out with ease. Nómade uses all flutes (from piccolo to bass) making it more attractive. The piece is optimally instrumented: if it would have two piccolos it would be quite difficult to play in tune, and when the melody is in the bass flute, the other flutes don't cover it.Cecilia Piehl Price, DMAhttp://ceciliapiehl.instantencore.com/web/home.aspxcprice36@kennesaw.com
