    Allen Vizzutti's "New Concepts" are just that--exercises, etudes, and duets that are fresh, modern, challenging, and just plain fun. OK, J.B. Arban wrote the trumpet bible, but let's face it, apart from those neat etudes-with-variations like "America" and the duet "The Fox Hunters," his...

    melodic stuff is dated and not really very good ("Woodsman Spare That Tree," anyone?). Here come Vizzutti's 25 etudes and 20 duets with cool themes. All are splendid and many have jazz-like articulations, complex meters, and unusual harmonics. In addition, he gives you nifty intermediate-grade sightreading and tongueing exercises. This is a great supplement to Arban.
