These are beautiful pieces and not very difficult for an adult who has been playing for over two years. Each is unique and has suggestions on interpretation. Also, the notation is easy to read.These Preludes do not sound like standard pedagogic pieces but are unique and melodic.

A lovely new edition of these wonderful pieces that students just love! An essential for the advanceing student. Nicer format than the old, small-size volume, and the background information is helpful also. Very fine performances on the CD. Bravo!

pieces are presented, (a major key followed by its parallel minor.) The Performance Notes by William L. Gillock are extremely helpful. The pieces are short, rarely over a page long, and are excellent additions to a student’s repertoire. To use a food analogy, scales might be likened to the vegetables in a meal; the Lyric Preludes are definitely the delicious dessert! The Anniversary edition of the book/CD combination is very reasonably priced, and Henry Doskey’s recordings of Gillock’s Lyric Preludes are excellent. I highly recommend it.
