Draw your audience into your performance with the sounds and sensations of a thunderstorm. The whispered opening and lyrical melody set the mood for an intriguing moment when one or more singers lead the audience in creating a realistic sounding thunderstorm through body percussion. From the hush of the wind preceding the rain to the climactic crash of the thunder, the effect is breathtaking! Performance notes and ideas are included, along with an opening narration.

I taught this song to a seasonal choir who smashed it at our local eisteddfod and really enjoyed learning and performing it!Highly recommended with body percussion and great dynamics.

  • April 30, 2008 The rain cannot wash the song out of your brain.

This selection was chosen for a beginning choir(most students were 6-8 years old) and parts of the song were difficult for them. However, they enjoyed performing the selection especially using body percussion to create a thunderstorm. The song has the quality of sticking inside your brain long after...

it is performed. When we experienced the first thunderstorm of the season, several choir members were joyously singing 'Listen to the Rain'. The teaching resource "The Body Electric" by Marc Burrows (Heritage Music Press)further explores the use of body percussion and mouth/vocal sounds to create unique music that many students find fasinating.
