some minor rewriting for small hands, and many redistributions of the hands. (Players may want to go even further, especially in the Toccata.) The music is beautifully laid out on the page, and the proof-reading has been done scrupulously. (This isn't true for all Alfred editions in this series; the Schumann Carnaval is almost unusable because of the numerous errors.) There are pages of introductory material that place Ravel in the context of his time. Each of the six movements of the Tombeau is introduced, and its technical and musical challenges discussed.

I played the toccata a long time ago and I'm still working on it. It's great and horribly difficult.

Marvelous background information on the piece and on Ravel. The fingerings are for the most part great and help with the phrasing and musicality. Some fingerings a little odd and while they make some passages more easily played, they change the musical idea.
