    As with all these critical editions, the essays, the print, and the quality of the binding is excellent. With this opera, it is interesting to note that this was one of Bellini's cleanest scores with very few changes. Yes, he transposed the tenor's arias and the major duet...

    into various keys, but there were few other changes. It is also interesting to not that NONE of the famous coloratura lines in the final aria were ever written by Bellini. When they actually entered the score is unknown, but were published even by Ricordi nearly from the start, but NONE of them were ever written or provided by Bellini. Bellini's music is extremely simply and yet telling. It is good to finally see what he actually wrote for Pasta, and one now can see exactly how her voice could have sung Norma as well as Amina. The traditional rendition of the score makes that claim appear impossible, even though, yes, Pasta did create both roles.
