This quintet is a fabulous piece, and I highly recommend it for any strings/clarinet chamber group or aspiring student. But when I click on the preview of the clarinet part, it has bow markings ("V"). What's up with that?? Were all of the editors string players and they...

assumed that maybe a string player would try to transpose the clarinet part in their head? I think it's really distracting for someone reading the music because clarinets don't have bows. Maybe they're phrase markings? Still, they're distracting. I'll decide on my own phrases, thank you. It would be nice to see a different edition without these markings in the clarinet part.

This piece is the most beautiful quintet you will ever hear. There is nothing else that can compare to the way Brahms carefully meshes together all parts into one flowing melody. I would suggest this to somebody who has been playing a while because it's very detailed. I have...

been playing Clarinet for 6 years and it is still tough for me. The clarinet part is very much the solo in this piece, however the string parts are also beautiful. In fact, there is a part included so that the solo can be played on viola. I do recommend it be played on clarinet however.
