  • June 19, 2008 Cool, but...

This book is pretty cool, because it has such a wide variety of Jack's titles available, HOWEVER, I have noticed that many of them are not in the original key of the recordings. I don't know if this was to make them easier to play or not. All...

of the intervals are right, but if you want to be able to play these along with the recordings or with other people that play the original versions, you better know how to transpose these into the proper key. It hasn't been a big problem for me, but if you don't have an ear for it and basic knowledge of theory (which many of the beginners buying this book won't) then it may be a little frustrating. Don't let this discourage you from buying this; aside from these minor issues, this is an extremely handy book to have and I have enjoyed it. Oh, and make sure you have your capo handy, as some of the transpositions necessary are going to be pretty tough to play as barre chords.

    Difficulty Level:
  • May 08, 2008 J.J. for the hard of talent!

This book is an absolute must for any beginner who is interested in picking up Jack Johnson's tunes using limited chords. If you are just starting out on the very long road to mastering the guitar and want to have a good 'ol sing along, buy it now! The...

book will not show you (or confuse you, in my case) with complicated tab and musical notation. It's just basic chords placed along side the words and should be bought with that in mind. It contains a huge range of tracks from his first album right through to In between Dreams.

I am very disappointed with the Jack Johnson book, [...] I am a beginner guitar player (in my 40's), and need all the help I can get. JJ's music utilizes great, but intricate strumming patterns. I would have taken it as a given fact that these would be included...

or explained in the book. Now I still have to figure it out myself, by listening over and over to the songs. (like I have the time)
