First and foremost, this book is meant to get you re-acquainted with your instrument by providing you with the type of music you want to play. This book contains a wide variety of songs in varying styles, giving you countless hours of enjoyment. The downloadable audio flies contain rhythm-section accompaniments (without the melody) for each song. You'll get more satisfaction studying, practicing and performing by playing along with a band. Use the printable PDF files of the piano accompaniments to play this music with a pianist friend, giving you more performance opportunities. As a bonus, the audio file contains complete performances of the songs to give you a goal of a performance standard. We know it's been a while since you've played, and we'll help you every step of the way. We've included useful reviews of the basics of music theory, plus a wealth of exercises to get you back in shape. So, what are you waiting for? Get your instrument back out of the case and get back to doing one of the things that you loved to do - playing music! And please, do it for the fun of it with I Used to Play!.
If you ever played the viola before, you know what a joy it is to actively participate in making music. Well, that is what this book is all about. First and foremost we want you to have fun! We have designed this book to include a wide variety of songs in many different styles, just for the fun of making music. I Used To Play Viola also contains many exercises and pieces designed for the adult musician to re-learn skills that may have been learned many years ago. It begins with a review of important musical terms and music theory followed by exercises and pieces that reintroduce the string player to using the instrument and the bow. The techniques covered are basic to playing easy orchestral and chamber music. The pieces cover a broad range of styles and are generally familiar to most people who have been involved in listening to music through the years. Practice some of the technical exercises and then turn to one of the pieces you would like to play and try reading it. If the piece you have selected has a technique that you are not sure of, try to find that technique in the opening pages of the book and practice it as an exercise. You can also listen to the piece and play along with the track that is played by a viola and piano and in some cases, other fun accompaniment instruments. When you become sure of yourself, you can try playing with the accompaniment track without the melody. I Used To Play Viola is not a beginner's book. If you are new to playing an instrument we suggest that you obtain a beginner's book and a teacher. After you have mastered the basics you can then come back to the material in the I Used To Play Viola book. Remember to have fun and enjoy making music!
