  • May 07, 2021 Accessible for students

Creative arrangements, yet easy enough to be accessible for students. Plenty of opportunities to add embellishments if you choose. Both solo part and accompaniment (CD or piano book) are musically interesting. They do tend to run a bit short, but are a great length for less experienced players.

  • February 18, 2009 Great basics for playing in church

Music is good for either a solo or with the accompaniment (separate book). Some parts of the arrangement are a little showy, but lends itself to easy improv. Great framework if you have to play in church on a regular basis and need material.

  • February 22, 2008 Short, But Fun

The CD makes it fun to play the hymns, but the arrangements are really too short for any kind of church performance, and most songs end with a final flourish of a sustained high note, which makes it difficult to extend the playing time by looping or repeating the soundtrack...

. Mel Bay has a book & CD called "Noels for Flute and Piano" which has some really nice arrangements of Christmas carols.

  • January 28, 2008 Enjoyable playing

I have played several of these selections in our church for specials. Because they are so short I do two at a time. The CD is well done although it doesn't give the flute a lot of solo time. It would be nice to have some more flourishes and...

fancy work (sometimes I add my own), but the arrangements are easy enough; even for someone as rusty as I am.

THE PERFECT BOOK FOR OFFERTORIES OR A QUICKIE SPECIAL. EASY ENOUGH TO SIGHT READ WITHOUT A BUNCH OF PRACTICE AND WITH THE ORCHESTRA ACCOMPANYMENT, IT SOUNDS FULL AND IMPRESSIVE. ALWAYS A LOT OF COMPLIMENTS ON THE PIECES.
