"Here Lies God's Son" is a very moving, if a little dark, Easter piece. I scheduled it first in our Easter program so that we could end with more upbeat pieces about the glory of the resurrection. It is told from the perspective of the disciples laying Christ's...

body in the Garden Tomb. It begins with an enumeration of the terrible events the Savior has just gone through, all set to a somber, driving rhythm, very reminiscent of a heart beat. Then comes the cruel irony, "Here lies God's Son" and the small relief, "It is over."The piece ends with an a cappella rendition of one verse of "O Sacred Head Now Wounded". It is extremely effective, and, as a bonus, not hard to learn or perform. I would recommend it to church and community choirs.
