I have taught from this method for more than fifteen years. The first half of the book is mostly scalar studies and arpeggio exercises. It goes through the circle of fifths and provides essentially the same structured workouts in all the keys. The second half of the book is primarily...

etudes and supplemental materials. If you combine parts of the first half with parts of the second half as each week's assignment for the student, it is well-rounded and challenging. This book is lesser-known than the other methods out there. I believe this is because of the book's seriousness in its intention to make real clarinetists out of the students who use it, versus those "pat 'em on the head" easy method books circulating in middle schools. Every student I have put through this book and the follow-up (Book II) has made fantastic progress and has become a formidable player at a young age. Especially suitable for gifted children. Go for it.
