Free Air for trombone and organ was composed in 2014 and was commissioned by Dr. Eileen Meyer Russell and Southwestern University. A grade V-VI composition in an accessible contemporary style, it would be a good addition to either organ or trombone recitals by college faculty, graduate students, or advanced undergraduates.

This duet of trombone with organ surprised me. I had never heard the two played together, and to me they combine well. The music is contemporary classical and held my attention. The maestoso ending contrasts well with the ominous beginning. The middle sections seem a little disjointed, but more listenings...

may help me understand the structure.
