This is a wonderful book that has become a standard in early vocal repertoire, almost to a fault however. Some of the arrangements have becomes so popular that they are almost bad choice simply because of how common they are. However, they are still great for the budding voice. I...

use it with my early singers, junior high and above. The vocal range doesn't go higher than a D5 in most and stays about a middle C for most of the low range with a few dropping to an A below. Kids seem to respond well to these songs and arrangements, I will continue to use.

I have used this book and Volume II for vocal lessons for many years. It is a wonderful volume. The accompaniments are creative and the students enjoy singing and performing these pieces. It's sort of a modern day Cecil Sharp collection of folk songs
