Five Caprices

By Colin Hand

Solo sopranino, descant, treble, tenor and bass recorder - Intermediate to Advanced
Composed by Colin Hand. Published by Forsyths Publications (FP.FHC70).

Item Number: FP.FHC70

ISBN 979-0-57050-154-0.

These pieces make an entrancing suite (and put a different complexion on studies!). For treble recorder there is a two part Invention and for tenor a haunting Canzonetta. The bass is given a mock-solemn Threnody, whilst the sopranino dances diabolically to a Tarantella. The Estampie, for descant recorder, is a whirling and exciting finale to the set.

A wonderful work for every recorder player, and especially for those who enjoy - like me - to play the wole range, from sopranino to bass. For those who are terrified by "modern" music - you can relax: you'll not find here those screamish atonal/serial/kakophonie garbage! This piece is pure...

music, not exercise in musicology. It is ful of joy, of touching melodies and subtle nuances and intricacies. A delight!
