    Michael Lewis
    Difficulty Level:
  • October 30, 2011 Superb newly published fantasia by LIszt

Apparently the piece was known and found in Liszt's estate at the beginning of the 20th century, but only resurfaced properly at an auction in Paris in 1991. the Liszt Society published it but that's hard to get hold of without joining the society (which is to be...

encouraged, though), and there are recordings by Andreas Ligeti (excellent) and Lesley Howard at least. It's truly wonderful. Unimaginable why Liszt didn't publish it in his lifetime. I think the first tune is something like Agathe's Cavatina, and it's the most beautiful thing. This text is coming out in the Editio Musica Budapest complete Liszt edition, probably later this year, but Schott have got there first with this nice edition, which lies flat, so stays open without having to be hit back.
