    When I first got this book I ran through most of the songs in it. Many contain dissonance which I do not care for. There are also lengthy interludes which do not contain the melody and would confuse my congregations. I respect other's opinions but I wish I had...

    As much as I like the arrangements in this second collection, I was surprised that 13 of the selections were the same tunes as in the first volume (albeit different arrangers). Would have been nice to have had a totally new grouping.

    The Essential Collection of Church Pianist II is as good as book I. I have them both and they have lovely arrangements and not too hard to sightread. I'm just waiting for III.

    I have this and the first in the series and love them both. Nearly every arrangement is enjoyable and suitable for church or my own pleasure. Some peices are arranged classically, some a little more modern - a good variety. None of them get too "exotic" where you can't tell...

    the song and harmonies are not too unusual. Some arrangements I can polish to performance level pretty quickly (w/i a week). Others are difficult enough that they are something I'll need to work up to. I rated this as Intermediate, and most of it is, but some of the more difficult pieces are probably better marked early advanced. When you consider the number of pieces it's a great cost/piece. Can't wait for the next volume.
