This is an excellent school at least for a trombonist who is changing his instrument (from a tenor to bass). Not because the numberous variations of slide positions (with and without the valves) for a same pitch but for to develope a better sound from the instrument (at least for...

    me) by practicing them.

After a lifetime of trom. playing I taught myself the double valve bassbone about 6 years ago using the Aharoni method. The Raph book was mentioned recently;I ordered a copy out of interest. My main criticism is the complex nature of the symbols used to indicate the combinations of...

valve and slide positions. It also seems illogical to call what is effectively 4th position on the F valve 5th position and so on. AS it was probably the first book of its kind, it must have been a difficult subject to approach: I appreciate that. the Aharoni, to me, is a much more lucid and practical approach. By the way, I am now 78 and still trying to play bass trombone.
