  • April 22, 2008 Great Solo!!!

I played Deepwood first as a sophomore in HS and now I'm working on it for my senior recital at Ohio Northern University. Deepwood is a very challenging piece. It displays all of the ranges of the bass clarinet and the sonorities are just amazing. I love this piece...

  • March 10, 2008 I recommend this!

I am a high school freshman. I am in the "top" band at my school. I've been in band for 3 1/2 years (1 1/2 years on clarinet and 2 years on bass clarinet. I played this for my UIL Solo this year. I made a "1...

" on it. It is pretty difficult but it is a beautiful piece of music. I recommend it.

  • September 22, 2006 Excellent Piece!

I am playing this for my senior recital. I am a bass clarinet major at Slippery Rock University and could not be happier for adding this piece to my recital. It has so much different emotion to it. The whole beginning really displays the range and timbre of the bass...

    clarinet itself.

Deepwood is a fabulous piece of music that i went to state with this year. It was a great first time A class piece of music that allowed me to not jump into the real difficulty of the A class standard. In my opinion, the one real difficult thing about...

the piece is the staccato eighth notes. Otherwise, the piece is great for interpreting as you own and adding your own little "flare" or "touch" to the piece as they say.

  • December 17, 2005 great piece

This is my solo for state this year, and I have found it to be quite challenging. My band director picked it for my because it has sections in all ranges of the horn. It has a lot scale patterns that are also helping me in other pieces of music...

. I would highly recommend it for any player that would like a challenge, to give them something to really work at.
