English.

Composed in 1905 this volume of Images, comprised of three contrasting pieces, demonstrates conciseness, deep dramatic content and colorful tonal imagery. Debussy established Impressionism as a pianistic style and used evocative terms to shed light on the mood or character of each piece. Maurice Hinson translates the French titles into English and offers practice suggestions to assist the performer.

  • March 22, 2008 Beautiful Work Of Music

I fell in love with this piece the first time I heard it, and decided I must try to learn to play. The first song in the suite Reflections on the Water is a beautiful piece to master. The second song, Homage to Rameau is also very beautiful. Debussy's...

style (impressionistic if you don't know) is incredible and this work reflects it. The pieces are pretty unknown for how great they are. The third movement entitled 'movement' is extremely difficult and I have not had time to learn. But for the price of this book, and the excellent commentary by the editors (translating all the french), this book is worth adding to any repertoire. The music is also a great study in impressionism and musical imagery.
