This book is awesome if you want to memorize your scales and learn techniques. It has already helped me in soloing. But it takes disipline to get it out and play it every day.

  • April 20, 2003 I use this with all my students

This book does a great job of helping students learn major and minor scales and arpeggios over the full range of the insrument. It is applicable to anyone at early intermediate level or beyond on the saxophone and applicable to any genre (classical, jazz, blues) There is additional material on...

tonguing and interval studies and a great fingering chart as well. The only flaw is that Kynaston assumes that the range is up to high F#. So, a player on an instrument that does not have an F# key will need to play the note using the altissimo fingering. I put all my students in this book when they are ready, typically a year or two after starting. The exercises in this book will serve players for as long as they play their instruments, even up to pro level.
