The book is designed to meet all of the national standards and frameworks for music education and is a comprehensive improvisational curriculum for individual musicians or group classes. The book includes a 52 track play-a-long and demonstration CD. Readers will learn that improvisation is about more than technique, right notes, and playing patterns. Improvisation is about style, phrasing control, creative design and intent, and learning to speak the language of jazz.

This book has a fun, language-based approach. It's really different from most other improv books I have. It really gets to the heart of the creative side of improv without killing you about technique and learning patterns. I use it with my students who are beginners and it...

    works.

  • September 12, 2007 A great improvisation book

I liked this book and it's not your typical "here are the scales-now go improvise" approach. The book is layed out really well, very progressive and covers every skill you can possibly want to develop to focus on jazz improvisation. It doesn't talk about harmony much, but...

rather talks about the creative side of improvisation and has probably 100 exercises, demonstration solos, and a really comprehensive play-a-long CD. If you're learning to improvise, you should definitely check out this book.
