  • November 02, 2010 Wow

After hearing the performance of the third movement of this piece at a music camp over the summer, it made me want to play flute, and I now take lessons. I sure hope that goes to show you how spectacular it is.

  • May 28, 2008 Khatchaturian "Flute" concerto

This arrangement by Rampal is REALLY good. This concerto is the greatest ride on earth! It's too bad it's NEVER performed. VERY difficult, mind you! The Edition is also very good.

  • January 23, 2008 Review on the Khachaturian Concerto (arr. Rampal)

This concerto could be one of the most exciting works ever written for flute, though Khachaturian first composed this piece for violin originally. Jean-Pierre Rampal, perhaps one of the most influential flautists in the 21st century, had transcribed this concerto carefully together with a new candenza written for flautists...

to show their virtuosity without spoiling the folk-song themes. The concerto should be an excellent choice for flautists who want to train up their lower register flexibility and attack. Also the 3rd movement is excellent for speed training together with lots of finger work throughout. No matter what, maintaining the general folk-song mood should be the most technically difficult to archieve, yet it should be the most enjoyable part both for the performer and the audience.
