  • January 22, 2014 The Perfect Concerto!

Ravel anFrom a technical standpoint this concerto is not as difficult as many of Ravel's other works (2nd Piano Concerto, Gaspard de la Nuit, etc) but it still has it's moments of difficulty. The true difficulty of this concerto lies moreso in the interpretation that Ravel's words...

require. Proper pedaling technique, as with all the piano works of Ravel and Debussy is of the upmost importance. You can approach this concerto with a jazz swing or you can focus on the impressionistic aspects of the work. However this is an absolute fun concerto to play. It's like Rhapsody In Blue meets Ravel. This concerto has the perfect hint of jazz. Is showy to pull off. And a crowd favorite. I highly recommend this for all aspiring pianist to include in their repertory.

This concerto is a great concerto for people who love classical music and jazz music. Ravel creatively combines various aspects of jazz into this concerto such as the high clarinet squeal in the third movement or the usage of popular jazz dance rhythms throughout the piece. This concerto has it...

all, flashy fast passages, the second movement is beautiful beyond belief and is a very substantial piece of music on a whole. Overall, this song is a great one for people who love music. Although extremely difficult, it is totally accessible with major hand stretches or incredibly long intense passages. I would highly recommend this piece to any and all pianists (the accompaniment is extremely difficult as well).
