    The composer himself considered this the best of his instrumental/chamber works. It is, I warn you, of immense technical difficulty, but the labour is worth it on so many levels. The intelligence with which Stravinsky has carefully aligned the sonority of the two instruments is breathtakingly exciting and the...

    harmonic and rhythmic intricacies are a joy to discover, unravel and assemble; these even on a purely pianistic basis. The work is impossible to play without understanding it; you are commanded to follow the instructions carefully laid out in the score - no short cuts in any sense (except perhaps two!). The reward for those professionals who get that far is sheer chamber music Heaven, so buy it, learn it and perform it! You will also need two finely matched Model D Steinways.
