This book is great for electric bassists who have learned the basics and are ready to take the next step. Beginning with a brief review of reading standard music notation and TAB, this book takes you further into using scales to build bass lines, techniques such as slap & pop, string muting, and walking bass lines. You'll be introduced to ideas such as modes, tetrachords, passing tones and varying rhythmic activity. Author David Overthrow keeps things fun and interesting without sacrificing any important details. A must for any serious bass players.

Goes through all the main chords and scales (pentatonic, blues, minor, different modes etc.)but really leaves it up to you to practice those - there's no spoon feeding here. A good section on walking bass, passing and step up tones with a glimpse into the world of jazz and...

blues chord progressions. Some practice on slapping and popping, but a little light on illustrating and describing this technique in more detail - it's easy to start with a bad technique. I started with this since I knew the basics and can read music, but I think many would benefit from the first book. The three books would form a very good base for a serious learner, and provide a starting point to explore other bass books.
