Clouds on the River is an easy percussion ensemble that is pleasing to the ear and easy to accomplish. The piece requires 12 players but is easier with 13 (dividing up the marimba part between two players). The emphasis is on the mallet instruments, but there is no vibe part. The chimes part can be played on the Vibes with hard mallets if there are no chimes. The instrumentation is: Timpani, Cymbals, Gong, Glockenspiel, Xylophone, Marimba, Chimes, Congas, Snare, Bass Drum, Triangle, Rainstick.
