Item Number: HL.51480391

ISBN 9790201803913. 9.25x12.25x0.034 inches.

This piece, probably the young Debussy's best known piano piece, was the slow third movement of his Suite bergamasque (HN 381) in four movements. Although it is conventional as far as the harmony is concerned, the tonal and melodic details already anticipate Debussy's later piano style. The suite was only published in 1905, although Debussy had made it clear by adding the date of composition “1890” to the proofs that it was an earlier work. The fact that he agreed to its publication shows that he still identified with this piece from a period whose style he had long since left behind him. Fingering: Hans-Martin Theopold.

About SMP Level 10 (Advanced)

Very advanced level, very difficult note reading, frequent time signature changes, virtuosic level technical facility needed.

  • March 18, 2020 EXCELLENT

If you are the type of pianist who wants to pursue the pieces in your repertoire as they were written, Henle is tough to beat. The next 2 best choices, in order, are Wiener Urtext, and Alfred's Masterwork series. It is important to note that SMP delivers your music...

with the utmost of care as items are mailed in a VERY stiff cardboard envelope, pretty much USPS proof! And that's saying something.

  • March 30, 2016 very nice

Very nice music, always loved Dubussy, but although this is advanced music, I would rate the level closer to 8 than 10...Beethoven's moonlight sonata 3rd movement should be the basis for a 10.
