I've been playing for 45 years. My main musical interest is blues; however, I was exposed to Charlie Christian's music, especially with Benny Goodman. "Flying Home" with Lionel Hampton is one of my favorite guitar pieces by Charlie. The book is laid out so that the intermediate player...

can transit to advanced with some work and patience. Learning appregios prior to this book will aid in playing Charlie's patterns well. The well-transcribed notation gives the accents to the sheet more than the tab, although I would never criticize tab because it helps with fingering formation. Excellent book..I recommend it as a challenging, yet enjoyable exercise. I highly recommend "Wes Montgomery Portfolio" as a similar challenge, as Wes learned guitar by playing Charlie's riffs note for note.

15 songs transcribed in notation and tab to include 'Solo Flight' (way cool). Phrasing was accurate when played. Also, transcribed is much of Goodman's and Hampton's work (cool). Some songs with fully transcribed (voiced) rhythm parts. Most songs only with chord names (uncool); thus 4 stars. Added, the...

score doesn't 'source' six songs (very uncool). For many songs are out there as different takes. So I've listed sources that are dead-on: COLUMBIA'S 4-CD box set 'The Genius of Electric Guitar' - Flying Home/Rose Room/Stardust/Seven Come Eleven/Shivers/Till Tom Special/Gone With What Wind/Grand Slam/Six Appeal/Wholly Cats/Air Mail Special/Honeysuckle Rose/Solo Flight. NOTE: Don't confuse with the single CD of the same name; the box set comes in a 'tiny Gibson tweed amp' for about $50 (way cool). LEGACY/LASERLIGHT/ETC. 'The Immortal Charlie Christian' - Swing to Bop. NATASHA'S 'Swing to Bop' (Out of Print) - Stompin' at the Savoy. Best of luck!
