  • January 09, 2018 Great Piece to Strengthen Skills

This may be my favorite piece of organ music to play. I'm an intermediate-level player and I found that this piece challenged me to practice, learn some new skills, and to stay with a piece until finished. Because the piece is so enjoyable, it took the drudgery out...

of extensive. In the end, I chose to edit out several sections so the length would be appropriate for a prelude or postlude at church (~5 mins). This piece will definitely be in my repertoire for many years to come. On a side note, I first started to learn this piece from a free copy I downloaded from the internet. There were passages in the free copy that seemed unplayable or illogical. Those difficult passages almost caused me to stop learning the piece. I then did some research and found that the free copy had mistakes in it...the very measures that were impossible to play or sounded strange! So avoid the free stuff on the internet!!

This definitely keeps your fingers moving. Great to play at concerts too, because everyone knows the main tune. I started learning this when I was 14.. it's not too bad as far as difficulty goes.

This is a fabulous piece based on the famous Westminster Clock Chimes. One of Vierne's finest work in my opinion
