"Cantique de Jean Racine" is a fairly well-known choral work by Gabriel Faure. Here scored for TTBB voices, the choral writing is accessible for most secure male choirs. The tenor lines occasionally juxtapose due to the rewriting of the original soprano and tenor lines. The fluid accompaniment is well-suited to either piano or organ. In this edition, the score has both the French text by Jean Racine and an English translation by the editor. An explanation of the source of the Racine text gives an understanding of its lyrical origins. This piece makes a wonderful addition to any choral concert or church service. It is also available in SATB, SAB, and SSAA arrangements.
