  • March 28, 2008 Good material to start any quintet with.

This book is a good start for anyone looking to start a quintet. There are many different levels of difficulty, different styles of music and good arrangements in this book that a small ensemble at any level has a chance to find material to play. The book as a whole...

is well written, has tips for playing each song by members of the group, and features spirituals, Bach, operas, and even traditional songs from Japan. A good find for anyone looking to get into playing gigs and wanting to play a full program. The intermediate rating might be a little misleading to some because of the challenges found in a chamber ensemble. If a member or two of your group has problems counting or playing with an ensemble, then music rated easy might be a good bet.
