Brahms' magnificent B-minor Clarinet Quintet is one of the summits of the chamber repertoire for clarinet. It is in many ways an homage to Mozart's classic quintet for clarinet. Not to be overlooked by any serious clarinetist. This book includes the quintet in its original key with printed parts for both A and B-flat clarinets, and adds a repitched version for B-flat clarinetists, allowing players of that instrument to learn the same fingerings as the composer's intended A clarinet for performance purposes. It also includes a professional recording of the quintet, with soloist; and a second performance minus the soloist. Also includes a recording of the quintet repitched to allow B-flat clarinetists to play the original written part for A-clarinet.

Performed by Collete Galante, clarinet

Accompaniment: The Classic String Quartet

If you are ready to play this you'll figure out the ensemble issues. Have access to a score! If you are willing to put in some study this is a good way to prepare for rehearsals. The intonation leaves much to be desired and seems to shift between takes...

that were spliced together to make this. It's not unbearable, but it robs a good deal of the potential fun. I hope someone does a better version someday.

This is a very subtle piece. To be played as MMO the accompaniement would have to be more regular. Without someone directing, or at least being able to sit in with the strings, it is almost impossible to follow. For learning purposes you would almost have to have a rythm...

"click" going. This would destroy the esthetics of the piece but at least rend it "learnable".

This is a VERY difficult piece to play with the accompaniment. I have been playing the music alone for many years and have had no difficulty with it, but the tempo's are so vague on the recording that it's almost impossible to follow. I think it would require...

a GREAT deal of listening to the complete version to master this. Not easy.
