By Stan Rogers

TTBB choir a cappella
Composed by Stan Rogers. Arranged by Ron Smail. Canadian Folk Song. Octavo. Cypress Choral Music #CP1253. Published by Cypress Choral Music (C3.CP1253).

Item Number: C3.CP1253

Stan Rogers, Canada's folk music hero, speaks to all of us through his words and music. This is a rollicking sea shanty. Not many songs have swearing (moderate) but this one really works! You might be swearing too if you lost both your legs!

Please ensure the number of copies you order matches the number of singers in your choir.

This arrangement really does a good job of having melody plus four part harmony without losing the folk sound. I purchased this for my TTBB ballad quartet, not a full choir (we had to cut the high tenor). One thing to note is that the baritone and bass have quite...

a few large jumps, without much mirroring of the melody, so plan on more learning time for those 2 voices. This would be better if, unlike me, you have more than one singer per voice. You will loose the authentic sound if you sing it like a classically trained choir, or try to turn it into a barbershop song, be straightforward and don't worry about having the tallest vowels.
