  • December 11, 2016 Great Baroque Starter Book!

I love this book! Been teaching myself for 18 months and could not find much literature taking me from all the method book 1's into a baroque collection not too hard for me to jump into. The Schott "Baroque Violin Anthology" Book 1 (edited by Walter Reiter) is perfect...

! It starts easy and each piece gets a little more challenging, all of it is baroque and a lot of fun. I've been playing the book for a month now, and finally worked my way through all the pieces, though it will take me months or more continued practice to get them to sound good. This is the perfect book for me! The included CD is an excellent supplement, allowing me to hear the rhythms that I am still only learning how to read (and even more slowly learning how to count). I also bought Book 2 and look forward to moving into it in a few months. Perhaps after that I will be much better qualified to go straight into full-scale baroque works by composers such as Corelli, Bach, Telemann, Purcell, etc.
