MusicWorks – Grade 3

Master composer Claude T. Smith graced the band world with many wonderful pieces, and this classic continues to be one of his most performed works. The opening theme sparkles with rhythmic vitality and harmonic devices that still sound fresh today. The contrasting Andante segment is lush and tender before returning to the fast main theme. A rewarding composition not to be overlooked! (5:00).

This selection has been around since 1978 and demonstrates composer Claude T. Smith's outstanding ability to write for the concert band. An ABA form with a majestic opening, the allegro takes off in a fast 4/4 with a few signature 7/8 measures thrown in to make it...

more interesting. The slow section is a beautiful chorale which eventually gives way to the allegro finish. Highly recommended, good writing, both band and audience pleaser.
